SINCE 2011

It was roughly 6 years ago that shop owner Jason Lowetz took a gamble by renting a 1,200 sq. ft. retail space at the corner of U.S. 31 and Four Mile Road in Traverse City, Mi, hoping to get his new bike shop off to a modest, minimalist start. He had recently moved back to Michigan after over 11 years in California and was in the midst of starting a family with his wife, Kristie.  His goal was simply to make a living doing what he loved and keeping the lights turned on.   Little did he know that there was vacancy in the local bike shop scene that his particular brand of shop just happened to fill.  That brand is built around a set of core principles that include a genuine love for the sport of cycling, a humble and down-to-earth attitude, and an atmosphere that welcomes all levels and disciplines of cyclists and non-cyclists.  The shop has since expanded to over 3,600 sq. ft. and is considered an institution among cyclists, both locally and from afar.

We offer full, professional service and repairs, rentals, and the best brands from around the world including Bearclaw Bicycle Co., Focus, BMC, Cervelo, Salsa, Surly, Marin, Kona, Niner Bikes, Stroemer electric bikes and KHS.

We have our own bike brand, and it's pretty darn awesome. In 2014, when the fat bikes were just coming onto the scene, we caught the bug.  Fat bikes were the missing link between fall and spring.  The only problem: we wanted something light and fast.  Nobody was offering a high-end racing fat bike, so we decided to make one ourselves.  Enter the birth of the Bearclaw Bicycle Co. Balthazar, a carbon fiber performance fat bike that dominates snow and sand.  This past year we introduced our Thunderhawk titanium all-road and our Beowulf titanium 29/27.5+.
